Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afrieyie is threatening to join traders at the Kejetia market for a naked demonstration over inappropriate resettling plans.

The traders in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi have rejected a directive by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to move their businesses to a different location.

The shop owners at the Central Market fear they may lose their shops after the project is completed.

This is in spite of assurances that shop owners would be the first to be considered when the market is completed.

KMA Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu said a company called Engineering Systems and Services Ltd have been contracted to register shop owners biometrically to ensure equity in distribution when the shops are ready.

But the traders insist the Kumasi Mayor is just telling them the sugar-coated words just to get them out. They also alleged that, the shops after completion would be given to loyalist of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In support, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie at a meeting with the traders in Kumasi said a government which thrives on propaganda and lies cannot be trusted.

He noted that though redevelopment of the Kumasi Central market is laudable, a total neglect of the original occupants will be suicidal.

Sir John as he is popularly called stated emphatically that he will gladly join the women in their naked demonstration if the KMA fails to redeem its promise.
