The Bank of Ghana has debunked news making round on social media that it is printing new currency denominations, Maame Esi Hammond, Head of Cooperate Communications at the central bank confirmed to Peace FM on the “kokrokoo” programme, Monday.
Photos of new Ghana currency in different denominations were posted on Facebook and went viral of whatssapp as well. The denominations are in GH¢30, GH¢100 and GH¢200.
The source of the misinformation is not yet known, but comments on the currency suggest that the government might be printing these new denominations or has plans to do so.
However, Maame Esi Hammond who spoke to Nana Yaw Kesse sit in host of “Kokrokoo” said the Bank has no plans of printing new currency denominations, hence investigations will commence immediately to find the culprits.
“The public should disregard this information,” she said; adding that, “there are no such plans by the Central Bank to print new currency denominations.”
