Information reaching us indicates that the acting Chief of Chinto-Doboro near Nsawam in the Eastern Region, Nana Okotoako Kofi Mankata II, 54, and his driver, Nana Kwame, 38, were on Saturday night gunned down by unknown assailants at Nsawam- Adoagyiri when returning to his house from a funeral.
The assailants, who reportedly wore masks and rode a motorbike, shot the chief and his driver in front his house and bolted.
Their bodies have since been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for postmortem.
Police Account
The Nsawam Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Akwasi Kankam Boadu, confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, hinted that the police received distress calls around 9:30 pm on Saturday about the incident and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene and that when they got there the deceased were lying dead in a pool of blood.
Chief Superintendent Kamkam Boadu said the late chief and his family lived in rented accommodations at Adoagyiri, while he is a chief at Chinto- Doboro.
According to the police, the chief and the driver on Saturday went to a funeral at Fotobi, a village near Nsawam, and returned very late in the night.
Chief Supt. Kamkam Boadu stated that the chief and his driver alighted at the road side and parked the car, then decided to walk to their house, adding that, the moment the two stepped out of the car, two unidentified persons jumped on them and shot them both to death at the spot.
He noted that, there was a light out in the area, so before the commuters would hear the gun shot and rush there, the two were already dead while lying in a pool of blood.
He said no arrest has been made yet but investigation is ongoing.
The incident has been linked to a protracted Chieftaincy dispute in the Chinto community.
