Prez. Mahama is behind me, I won’t resign – Attorney General to Woyome

MRS.MARIETTA-BREW-APPIAH-OPPONG-MINISTER-FOR-JUSTICE-AND-ATTORNEY-GENERAL-3Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has sharply responded to businessman Alfred Woyome who has accused her of receiving about  GH¢1.4 million from the GH¢51 million judgment debt paid him and has asked her to resign.

This was in reply to a letter written to Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong  by Woyome suggesting that she should resign because she  “wearing a biased lens in making decisions concerning this case.”

Responding to the letter on Accra based Asempa Fm, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong said  “I will not resign, the President is behind me and I will fight this case till the end.”

She insisted that “the letter is dishonest, unnecessary and an attempt to throw dust in the eyes of Ghanaians.”

“I have not worked for Woyome before and I have the full backing of the President to do my job and I will continue to fight this case and take back the monies for the people of Ghana,” she added.

An Accra High Court acquitted and discharged Mr Woyome of charges of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense.

The AG who disagreed with the ruling has subsequently filed an appeal against the ruling.

In a letter addressed to the AG, on March 13, Mr Woyome said: “I am humbly appealing to you [Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong] to step aside or resign totally as an Attorney General for another person to pursue the appeal in the interest of the justice.”
