If not for her nine month old baby, Comfort Mensah would have served a year in jail for biting and swallowing a portion of her neighbour´s lip.
Mrs. Rita Doko, presiding judge of the Takoradi circuit court A, tempered justice with mercy in this case to enable the accused mother cater for her baby.
She would however be under six months police supervision and pay GH¢2000 to cover the medical bill of complainant Margaret Ekuua Aikins.
Prosecuting, Chief inspector Veronica Tibson, told the court that the complainant and the accused lived in the same house at Essipon, and that, on February 15, this year, the brother of the complainant sat on a mortar belonging to the accused.
She said after the brother had gotten up, a little sister of the complainant also came and sat on the same mortar and the accused this time pushed the girl to the floor.
The prosecutor said the girl then started insulting the accused and she (accused) also beat her up.
She said the complainant in her attempt to rescue the little girl, was thrown to the ground by the accused, beat her and bit part of her lip off.
The Prosecutor said the complainant was rushed to the hospital and after investigation, the accused was charged with the offense.
The laceration of the complainant´s lips measures 10cm wide and 1.5cm deep.
