A 75-year-old mother of two, Janet Odi was stripped naked in public and beaten by irate youth of Dawu Sanfo, a village near Konko in the Akuapim North Municipal Area for allegedly murdering her brother.
Madam Odi’s face was smeared with sand, while his house was destroyed together with her money, bags of maize and other foodstuff.
She claimed that she was accused by one Yaw Twum, a 23- year- old fetish priest of the village, for hiring assassins to kill her brother, Amoh Kwadwo, who died about a month ago.
She told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the fetish priest asked the youth gathered at his shrine to go his house to bring some objects, which he claimed were hidden under her bed but the youth found nothing.
Madam Odi said after her ordeal at the shrine the youth led by two of her brothers beat her mercilessly and stripped her naked.
She was later provided with a dress by a woman in the community.
Madam Odi complained of body aches, sleepless nights and blurred vision due to the sand which was used to smear her face.
Madam Akosua Owusua, a child of Madam Odi, who heard about the plight of her mother took her to Koforidua where she is currently staying.
With the support of the GNA and the Women’s Department of the Department of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the case has been reported to the police who have initiated investigations into the case.
