Bring in foreign investors to support boxing – Gyan urged

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAFormer Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) chairman Moses Foh-Amoaning has charged Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan to bring in foreign investors to support boxing.

To the learned boxing enthusiast, Gyan had so much experience on and off the pitch to engage some business magnates in his oil-rich UAE base to come invest in Ghana.

He praised Gyan highly at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra on Saturday for his contribution to boxing, which until recently was dying due to lack of promotions.

Foh-Amoaning, a member of the Brazil World Cup Commission of Inquiry, however told Gyan, also referred to as Baby Jet, that what the country needed now was a boxing gymnasium which would go a long way to restore the sport’s dwindling fortunes.

“Try and talk to some of the business guys to come down and invest in the sport. All we need is a gymnasium, like the Madison Square Garden in the US and it will solve most of our boxing needs.

“The sport has produced almost 10 champions, yet we have nothing to show forth by way of infrastructure. You are really doing well with your regular promotions, it is not easy, but you keep pushing, keep it up.

“We are also praying for you so that in 2017, come what may, you will lift the AFCON trophy in Gabon,” said Foh-Amoaning.

Gyan responded positively and promised to do all he could to engage foreign businesses to put up the gymnasium. “I think it is a laudable idea. I will prefer citing it at the Accra Stadium all being equal. I will work towards that.”

The Black Stars captain arrived in Accra last Friday from UAE to rally behind his boxer Emmanuel Tagoe in a WBA title bout against Joebert Delos Reyes at the Accra Stadium.

He flew out to his base last Saturday afternoon.
