Citizen Kofi suggests death penalty for corrupt officials

Renowned entrepreneur, Dr. Kofi Amoah, is advocating the death penalty for persons found guilty of corruption.

He says Ghana’s economy and its finances are in such dire straits that drastic measures are required to protect the public purse.

“If you go into public office and steal ad we catch you, we must eliminate you like the Chinese,” he stated.

Dr. Amoah, who was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday, said whilst his view may be unpopular and radical, he believes it has served some countries well and Ghana must adopt same.

“Anybody who is going to take the critical ingredient for our forward movement, for the progress of our nation, to get to the shining city on the hill, the future of Ghana, if they are going to take it from our mouths for their own personal gain, we must eliminate them,” he said.

Dr. Kofi Amoah believes any Ghanaian who goes to borrow or beg for money and diverts part of that for their personal benefit must not be allowed to live when found out.

“I know a lot of you will not agree with me, but that is my position,” he stressed.

Corruption is reported to have assumed alarming proportions in the country with the country’s main political leaders accusing each other daily of corrupt practices.

The cancer of corruption is said to be spreading to every facet of the Ghanaian society and depriving the nation of scarce resources needed to undertake development projects.

Asked how he would deal with the canker, Dr. Amoah said, the death penalty is the panacea because Ghana has dithered in its fight against corruption for far too long.

“I am also Godfearing; I go to church, I pray and I know a lot of us believe that we don’t have the right to take a person’s lives but the criticality of the situation [warrants drastic steps],” he explained.

Large amounts of money, he said, is disappearing into people’s personal pockets.

“People are building houses and if you look at their circumstances, their salaries, they cannot justify it; people are buying houses in London [and] in South Africa, and if you were to ask them where did you get the money from, that money comes from your pocket and my pocket,” he asserted.

Such people, for him, must face the death penalty if found guilty.
