Disturbing PHOTO: 9 SDA members killed in accident

sda-accidentNine members of Meduma North Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church met their untimely deaths when one of their buses ran into another vehicle at Tano Odumase in the Ashanti Region last Saturday.

The dead included a mother and her child in a Sprinter bus which was involved in the ghastly accident when the Christians were returning home from an Easter convention.

The accident, described by eyewitnesses as horrific, left in its wake several members of the SDA church critically injured.

Agona District Police Commander, ASP Francis Akwasi Asante, who confirmed the accident, said the accident involved a metallic-orange Sprinter bus and a Mazda vehicle.

According to the police chief, several others sustained varying degrees of injury and were taken to the Agona Government Hospital which referred them to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment.

He explained that the Sprinter bus, which was leading the convoy at a point in the journey, was forced to apply brakes to allow a taxi to maneuver back to its lane in an attempt to save the cab from a possible collusion with a truck from the opposition direction.

ASP Asante said the Mazda, which was trailing the Sprinter in close marking, ran into the rear of the bus and the impact forced the two vehicles to veer off the road and fell into a ditch.

An eyewitness told that he saw eight persons motionless at the scene of the accident with blood spilt over the place, while one person was reported to have passed away on the way to the hospital.

The eyewitness disclosed that it took rescuers close to 30 minutes to get all the passengers out of the mangled bus.
