Ghana Music Awards forgot Ghetto KB but remembered Kenya shooting

In journalism, it is allowed to take from various angles and report but proximity is one basic factor to consider when reporting.

The abysmally organized Ghana Music Awards came off last Saturday at the Accra International Conference Center and as usual, Artistes, fans, well-wishers in their numbers filled the auditorium to witness the overrated event.

In my preview of the show on radio when I was asked my expectations, I said on air that I was wondering how creative the organizers of the award ceremony would be with the Castro and Ghetto KB incidents. I was satisfied with the Castro eulogy but Ghetto KB was totally forgotten, indeed ‘out of sight out of mind.’

Those who were there to present the awards were quick to pay tribute to the Kenya Students who were shot this month, indeed it is laudable to show solidarity to a neigbouring country but I was convinced to agree with my friend Prince Derby (Blogger and Entertainment Analyst) that those who present awards on music awards nights are there with the interest of headlining subsequent reportage, Derby you are right and for the first time, I agree with you.

Not even Samini, the CEO of Highgrade Family even remembered a member of his team who had contributed so much to Xtra Large Music family. It is sad to note that the budding talent who had amazing potential was completely forgotten by everyone in just a flash. If there is any incident which should have pinged the minds of the organizers, it should have been Ghetto KB’s demise which is less than a month old.

It could be debated that, Ghetto KB was not a big name but he was not a small name either and on such a stage, such a name should not have been forgotten this soon.

RIP Ghetto KB.
