Ghanaian actor John Dumelo Friday night endured one of the most horrific moments of his life when he was robbed at Labone, a suburb of Accra.
The actor, who had just returned from London, had left his car to withdraw money from an ATM when the robbers, numbering two, broke into his Toyota Tundra.
The incident, he said, occurred around 8pm in front of Bosphorus Turkish restaurant.
A devastated John Dumelo narrated to Myjoyonline.com that the robbers threatened to shot him when he tried confronting them.
He recalled: “I parked my car, sat in a friend’s car to go use ATM machine. When I was coming back to take my car I saw my door open and they were taking the last of 3 bags into their car.”
“I tried confronting them but they said they had a gun, and will shoot if I try anything,” he said. According to the celebrated actor, the assailants subsequently sped off in a black VW Golf 4.
Asked if he managed to catch a glimpse of the robbers, John said “Everything happened in like five seconds,” and therefore it was difficult for him to see their faces.
The robbers broke the back glass of the actor’s vehicle and “that’s how they opened the door”, Dumelo narrated.
They made away with two travelling bags, because “I had just come back from London,” he said and revealed further that a brown bag which had his laptop, passports, money and documents were taken.
The robbers also made away with about $4,000 and £3,500 in cash.
John Dumelo said he has since reported the incident at the Cantonments Police Station.
