Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the seven suspected criminals who escaped from police custody a month ago, literally walked out of their cell without any obstruction.

The suspects are reported to have escaped at a time that the police personnel on duty – on 13 March, 2015 – were nowhere to be found.

Three of the recaptured fugitives claim to have had help from two Nigerians who came to open the gate of the cell for them (inmates) to escape. Their accomplices then directed them (fugitives) to jump into a waiting car outside the cell.

This revelation came up when the Volta Regional Police Commander, Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, led a team that took three of the re-arrested criminals to the cells to re-enact their escape.

The suspects, who explained their escape in the Ewe language, confessed that they contracted two Nigerians and some Aflao citizens to facilitate their escape.

This revelation seems to have indicted the policemen on duty on the night of the jailbreak. The duo, whose names are still unknown, are reported by the police administration to have been interdicted after their 10-day ultimatum to reproduce the fugitives had elapsed.

Despite this revelation, the Regional Commander has explained that “Their fate will be determined after all the suspects have been arrested and a thorough investigation has been conducted.”

He said that investigation would also involve a series of trials to determine whether the officers were negligent or otherwise.

Recaptured So Far
Within a space of two days (last Wednesday, 1 and Thursday, 2 April) the police in Denu, led by the Regional Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare, recaptured four out of the seven suspected criminals who absconded from the Denu police cell a month ago.

Three were first recaptured at a shrine at Klikor near Agbozume upon a tip-off. They were immediately remanded and put under tight security.

The arrest mission saw some bloody exchanges but the three sustained some gunshot wounds – two of them in the legs and one on the hand. Four other accomplices suspected to be hiding them in the shrine were arrested.

The criminals are reported to have gone there to fortify themselves with supernatural powers.

The three fugitives rearrested were Stanley Wada alias Kay bee, 30; Kwaku Azasu alias Voyo, 24 and George Dabla, 24, aka Black Jesus.

Fourth Suspect
The fourth escapee was re-arrested a day after the three in the Republic of Togo with the help of the police in that country. The police had also retrieved one of the two AK 47 assault rifles that the jail breakers took away with them. The latest re-arrested fugitive is Linus Ashietey.

The four fugitives are among seven who allegedly overpowered two policemen on duty and made away with two AK 47 assault rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, has assured the public that the remaining three would surely be re-arrested and the weapons retrieved.

The remaining three on the run are Edem Gomala, 25 and two Nigerians – Albert Obina, 21 and Tobe Chucku Asadu, 20.
