First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has denied the fact that the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong were not informed of the Steering Committee Meeting.
The Steering Committee of the NPP on Monday, convened an emergency meeting in the absence of the National Chairman and the General Secretary.
However, this meeting is causing controversies in the party especially because Paul Afoko and his General Secretary were allegedly not informed.
Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Freddie Blay debunked claims of tension and indicated that the meeting was convened in accordance to Article 9(1)2(a) of the party’s constitution which states that in the absence of the National Chairman, the First Vice Chairman (Freddie Blay) can call for any meeting.
According to him, the party could not have waited for the two executives because vetting of the parliamentary aspirants was to start on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
He also disclosed that both National Chairman and General Secretary knew about the meeting so there is no cause for alarm.
“There was no coup; it was all legitimate and it was done out of the constitution. 9 out of 13 of the executives attended the meeting…we informed the General Secretary but he said he was attending his Mother-in-law’s funeral at Nkoranza. Paul Afoko was also out of the country and we could not wait for them…” he said
