I-Save Ernest, a task force that has taken the charge to raise funds for Ernest Baah, a student diagnosed of end-stage kidney failure is making a fresh appeal to the general public.
The patient has been receiving renal dialysis for the past three months at the Renal Unit of the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, while awaiting a transplant scheduled for this year.
The support team with backing from his family and friends are in this light soliciting for funds to finance his transplant surgery, which is expected to take place in India.
In an interview with the patient’s parents, they described the development as ‘sad and haunting’. ‘Unfortunately the procedure has not been able to take place due to insufficient funds. We have done all we can. We further appeal to all benevolent individuals and corporate institutions to help save our son. We appreciate the enormous support and contributions given so far. It has come to show how much concerned you all are,” his parents stated.
So far, attempts to raise funds have produced an amount of $1,800 (GHC 6,800) as against the total sum of $47,000 (GHC 178,600) needed for funding the transplantation procedure, laboratory investigations for the recipient and the donor, flight, accommodation, medications etc.
Even though, it is impressive the sum raised does not suffice the amount needed for the course. It is on this note the support team further appeals to the heart of all and sundry to keep supporting this course.
