#DumsorMustStop: 233times.net joins campaign and offers free platform

423089_107481326045597_2044176898_nThe Publisher of www.233times.net , Nana Kwesi Coomson has announced the medium’s intention to join the #DumsorMustStop campaign, offering free platform on the website to Celebrities and anyone who is interested in joining the social media war to end the erratic power supply in the country.

Showbiz Personalities coming out to express their frustrations on national issues is something new to Ghana. For Sarkodie to compose two songs about the near-failing of the state, for Actress Yvonne Nelson to start #DumsorMustStop campaign on micro-blogging website Twitter, for Actress Lydia Forson blatantly pouring out her mind on social media and Comedian DKB threatening series of demonstrations to that effect should tell any discerning human being the level of exasperation amongst Ghanaians.

A report by the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) reveals that, Ghana lost between GHc320 million and GHc924 million in 2014 alone due to the ongoing power crisis. The 2014 Social Development Outlook said this amounts to between 2% and 6% percent of GDP annually and does not include direct cost. Maverick Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has predicted that half of local businesses will collapse by the end of 2015, as a result of this migraine (dumsor).

Workers of Coca Cola, Mantrac, Cadbury Ghana, Fan milk and other companies are expected to lose their jobs as the ‘dumsor’ deepens. According to the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), companies have brought notifications of their retrenchment plans as a result of dumsor. The anger of Cold store owners alone would be enough for this publication.

There have been scads of promises from Prez. Mahama about the problem ending and the latest of the promise from the President is that, the dumsor will end in December 2015. I wonder how many jobs would collapse by then, but then again, smart business will survive and will not lay off workers like the Commander-in-Chief says.

“When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on red-hot cinder, a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity “Albert Einstein. The country has sat on red-hot cinder for 3 years and only God knows how ‘burnt’ individuals and entrepreneurs are. At www.233times.net , our work is highly dependent on electricity so it is only prudent that we join in this campaign.

If we will allow political colours to cloud our thoughts and sit unconcerned, Ghana would eventually collapse. Some of us are objectivity supporting the campaign because if the state can buy electricity for the country to watch football and not help factories to survive then there is a problem somewhere. Youth in Sekondi have even threatened mayhem if the dumsor does not end any soon.

Yvonne Nelson, allow me to quote you here “I can’t believe there are Ghanaian celebrities on social media pretending not to have seen OUR movement!”

I reiterate that, there is free platform on www.233times.net for anyone who has any item to publish on the #DumsorMustStop.

We are fed up!
