ABOUT 40 students of the Universal Hall, popularly known as Animal Kingdom of the Koforidua Polytechnic in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday joined a demonstration organized by the Students Representative Council (SRC) through the principal streets, having stripped themselves naked.
We gathered that the naked students, for fear of victimization by colleagues and parents, covered their faces with their shirts and were guided by heavily built colleagues who prevented onlookers from taking photographs of them.
The students – from the all-male hall of the polytechnic – intermittently paused at junctions and performed certain rituals which attracted many onlookers.
The postures and actions of the students were said to have surprised the inhabitants who stood by the road side to catch a glimpse of them.
The hitherto peaceful demonstration reportedly became almost violent when a stoutly built man was said to have assaulted a pedestrian at the B Foster Junction, who was allegedly spotted attempting to take snapshots of the nude students.
But the timely intervention of police personnel restored calm and the demonstrators were guided by the law enforcers throughout the protest march until they returned to the campus.
When the school authorities were contact by the media, they refused to comment on the event.
