Nana Addo to speak on NPP troubles today

nanaaddoThe New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo will today [Friday] speak for the first time on recent in-fighting within the party.

Pressure has been mounting on Nana Addo to publicly speak on recent events within the party following calls for the National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong to step aside.

Today’s press conference will also focus on the decision by the party’s security to prevent some party officers from entering the headquarters of the party.

He is also expected to touch on the party’s impending parliamentary primaries.

Afoko and Kwabena hold meeting in Kumasi

Meanwhile Afoko and Agyepong on Thursday held a crunch meeting  with constituency chairmen in the Ashanti Region in a bid to court their support.

This comes on the back of a failed Ashanti Regional NPP meeting to decide the fate of the two party leaders.

Citi News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent Hawa Iddrisu who was at the venue where the meeting was held reported that “the meeting was held behind closed doors with a team of Police men  and well built men guarding the entrance of the hotel [venue for meeting]”

According to her “none of the executives were also present at the meeting.”

We weren’t aware of meeting – Sam Payne

In a related development the Ashanti Regional NPP Secretary, Samuel Payne has said the regional executives were not aware of the meeting held by National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong with constituency chairmen.

“As far as I was not consulted and my Regional Chairman too was not consulted,” said Payne.

That notwithstanding, Sam Payne told Citi News that 35 constituencies have overwhelmingly voted to support the calls for the two national officers to step aside.

“Majority of those who submitted their proposal asked the National Chairman and the General Secretary to step aside for peace and tranquillity to prevail.”
