PHOTO: 2 arrested for producing fake roadworthy certificates

fakedvlaTwo men who claim to be workers of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Weija branch, have been arrested by the Osu police for allegedly producing fake roadworthiness certificates.

The suspects are Emmanuel Kwesi, 21 and Patrick Halamgbala, 30.

They were arrested at Weija DVLA after some drivers had been arrested earlier by the police for using the fake certificates on the roads.

They are in police custody assisting in investigations.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent David Owusu Bempah, Osu District Police Commander, said for the past five months the Osu police had been arresting drivers with fake DVLA roadworthiness certificates plying the roads.

Most of the victims arrested included lawyers, judges and officials of some known big companies.

When asked where they had the fake certificates from, they all mentioned the name of Patrick Halamgbala at the DVLA office at Weija as the one who sold them to them at a cost of GH¢60 each.

The police monitored the activities of the said Patrick Halamgbala and through investigations arrested Patrick and Emmanuel Kwesi on May 27, 2015.

Patrick, while in custody, told police that another worker at the DVLA office supplied him with the booklet to be sold but he could neither mention his (officer’s) name nor help the police to locate him.

While investigations were ongoing, it came to light that the two were errand boys who were always seen around the DVLA office at Weija, but were not real workers of the Authority.

They are in custody and would be sent to court soon
