Edem wins Best International Act at Black Canadian Awards
Ghana’s Edem triumphed in a nomination category of top 7 leading African artists; Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Davido (Nigeria), Edem (Ghana), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast).
“Congratulations to all the nominees, African music has really grown and it’s nice to know it’s now trending in almost every city in Canada” says Paul Ade, the Executive Producer of the Canadian Awards Academy.
The awards show was hosted in Toronto Canada on Saturday on June 6th 2015.
Destra Garcia of Trinidad won Best International Act Caribbean for the second year in a role, both her new work and votes delivered the win.
Emmanuel Jal, won Best African Style Artist in the category for Canadian based top African artist, the other top nominees are Akin, Dice Ailes, Trinity Mpho, Kobena Aquaa-Harrison and Ozee B aka Ozee the Boss.
Other winners for the night were Elijha Hammill who won for Best Male Actor, Amanda Brugel for Best female Actor, Lisa Banton for Best RnB Act, Dan-e-o for Best Hip Hop Act, KellyLee Evans won for Best Jazz / Soul Act, Best Urban dance winner went to Shameka Blake, Tasha T winner for Best Caribbean style Artist,Donnett Thompson-Hall won Best Gospel Artist, Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir won Best Gospel Group, DJ Mel Boogie won for Best DJ, Trish won for Best Pop Artist, Artist on the Rise was won by Flo from Winnipeg, Spoken word winner was Dwayne Morgan, Latoya Forever won Best Entertainer, Scott Laurie won Best Media Personality, Beni Boo won for Fashion, Best Blogger winner was ThePurrr by PepperBrooks, Lawrence Kerr won for Best photography and The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill won for Best Writer & Literary work. Due to high volume of vote counts, tours and industry work, Solomon Wunibee “The Psalmist”, a Top Gospel nominee was also awarded with Best Male Gospel Artist.
All the performances delivered a world class perfomance. All credits goes to DOAHL Academy, Lisa Banton, Leila Dey, The Psalmist, SKIBU, Sunset Service, Jay Harmony, Mel C and Xolisa. The 2015 Black Canadian Awards was indeed a night of fun, great performances and honor.
