Korle Bu: 4 employees sacked over GHc900,000 fraud

Korle-buThe Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Board has terminated with immediate effect, the appointment of some of its employees due to what it described as “gross incompetence and dereliction of duty in the management and day-to-day operations” of its pharmacy.
Following a forensic audit commissioned by the Ministry of Health in 2014 which established
that an amount of GHC946,574.29 could not be accounted for from sales revenue at the 24-
Hour Pharmacy, an administrative enquiry commissioned by the board subsequently
established the culpability of the four individuals. They are Elizabeth Bruce, Director of Pharmacy and also Director of 24-Hour Pharmacy, Eric Kwaku Kyei, Principal Pharmacist/ Pharmacy Manager, Augustina Dankyi, Pharmacy Accountant and Daniel Eledi, Stores Assistant.

The board thus, convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday June 17, 2015 and decided to terminate the appointment of the four individuals.

The board, in a statement indicated that its “decision is without prejudice to the ongoing criminal investigations being carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation in respect of the unaccounted for funds.”

The board further revealed that it had directed management to carry out relevant internal processes and procedures on all other operations of the hospital with the view of putting in place robust measures to forestall similar occurences in the future.

“The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Board wishes to inform the staff and all other stakeholders
that it remains committed to ensure that the assets of the hospital are protected,” the statement added.
