Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan left good footprints at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital last Tuesday by touching many hearts.
Accompanied by Black Stars Management Committee chairman, George Afriyie, officials of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation and high life musician Kwabena Kwabena, the Al-Ain striker presented a cheque for $10,000 to the Cardio Centre.
The team later visited the Plastic Surgery, Surgical, Maternal Unit of the Children’s Block and other wards where they made donations of bags of Mama Vits Rice and Instant Noodles to the patients.
Gyan also demonstrated love to his former trainer at Liberty Professionals Nii Noi Thompson, who has been suffering from stroke for the past two years.
The striker pledged to foot all medical expenses of the coach who was present at the hospital at the time of the visit.
He said, “I remember my last admission here [at Korle-Bu] was way back in 1999 so I have some memories about this place,” the Al Ain said at the function.
“Aside this [the donation] being part of the Star Soccer Fiesta, I enjoy giving back to society and I hope this goes a long way to help tackle some of the challenges of this unit.”
The National Director of the Cardiothoracic Center Dr Lawrence Siriboe thanked the striker for the gesture.
The donation marked the commencement of the reloaded version of the annual Stars Soccer Fiesta scheduled for Kumasi this weekend.
This year’s event is being used by the joint charity foundations of Asamoah Gyan and Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor (SEA) to make vital social interventions through donations to needy institutions.
