Prez. Mahama fulfills 10,000 school sandals promise

13907472179_663de9921d_b-620x330President John Mahama will today [Monday], hand over 10,000 school sandals to the Education Ministry for onward distribution to pupils in deprived communities.

This is in fulfillment of a promise he made in May 2014 during a familiarization tour to the factory at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The school sandals were produced by the Defense Industry Holding Company; a shoe Factory owned by the Ghana Armed Forces.

Government is already supplying free school uniforms to school children in deprived communities and according to the President, the additional supply of free sandals distribution will encourage parents to send their wards to school.

However, many kicked against the decision including a retired diplomat, K.B Asante. He recommended that the policy of free shoes to school children in the country should be implemented with due consideration to the state of the economy. The handing over ceremony will take place at Ada Foah RC Primary at 1pm.
