An 87 year old man is before an Accra High court for allegedly raping a 79 year old woman.
The accused, Kofi Aduobi, a resident of Aburi Akwapim in the Eastern Region is said to have on March 23, 2015 had sexual intercourse with the victim (name withheld) contrary to section 97 of Act 29/60 of 1960.
The accused has denied the offence in a court presided over by Justice K. A. Okwabi.
The facts of the case as presented by the prosecution are that the complainants are the children of the victim aged 79 who is sick and bedridden while the accused is a resident of Aburi.
He said on the aforementioned date at about 2pm, the complainants returned from town, entered the victim’s room only to find Kofi on top of the victim busily having sex with her.
The prosecution said Kofi told the police that he started dating the victim in 1996 and has since been having regular sexual intercourse with the victim adding that he has witnesses to attest to his claim.
According to the prosecution, Kofi said the sexual intercourse which he had with the victim was consensual.
The police are yet to take statement from the victim who is currently speechless.
Meanwhile the suspect has been in and out of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital due to his deteriorating health.
However, lawyers for the accused have filed a motion for bail pending trial.
