Founder and Leader of the Ghana Freedom Party [GFP], Madam Akua Donkor, has denied ever receiving an amount of GH¢ 30,000 from an unknown source to fund the campaign of the party’s parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Talensi by-election.
According to her, the allegation made by the GFP’s candidate, Yaro Bameezina Philip is untrue and intended to simply tarnish her reputation.
Yaro was purported to have said – “everybody [all political parties] are campaigning but what Akua Donkor is doing is not the best. In the North here, you can’t do politics without pushing money”.
He also further threatened that – “I might not even vote for myself on the election day”.
However, the labeled ‘comic politician’ cum farmer, Madam Akua Donkor told Accra-based Kasapa FM‘s afternoon political show host that, she was well-to-do before entering politics after rubbishing the accusations.
Madam Donkor maintained that she solely funded all her political activities ever since she gave birth to the UFP – “I am a resourceful farmer capable of funding whatever endeavour I undertake. What is more expensive than forming and running a political party?”
She opined that under no circumstances would she merge with any political party for assistance to run the UFP.
Akua Donkor whose party is contesting for the Talensi by-election is not even sure of a victory though her party’s candidate was optimistic of winning the elections until the unfortunate issue of the “seizure” of his campaign purse by flagbearer.
The July 7 Talensi bye-election has become necessary following the resignation of the former NPP MP for the area, Robert Nachinab Mosore who has been enskinned as Tongo Chief under the name Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan.
