The Founder and Leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor has revealed that she has fired the candidate who contested the Talensi by-election on the ticket of the party.
Yaro Bameezima, she said has been sacked for coming out to allege that the controversial politician pocketed an amount of GHC 30,000 handed her for the Talensi by-elections.
“The very day he came out to say that I sacked him, I fear he may be influenced to even come to harm me…he may even come over to pour acid on me like the NPP did to their chairman in Bolgatanga…,” she said.
Yaro in the heat of campaign for the Talensi seat said Madam Akua Donkor who came to plead with him to contest the by-elections on the ticket of the party pocketed an amount of money given her for the elections.
“They have given you the money, something like 300 million old cedis [GHc30,000] and you don’t want to give me a pesewa. Should I use my own money for the campaign? You were on your knees begging me to stand for you and now you don’t want to push money,” he alleged.
This allegation, Akua Donkor told Adomonline.com in an interview was false as no one gave her money to run the campaign.
According to her, she supported the candidate with various campaign materials including T shirts and campaign posters which she printed from Kumasi.
“I also paid for his filing fees and gave him an amount of GHC 1000 for his personal upkeep…,” she said.
To her, the GFP would have made significant impact on the Talensi polls if the candidate had not called people not to vote for him since “I won’t even vote myself’.
Madam Akua Donkor further accused Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Chairman Wontumi as the one who influenced her candidate to come out to disgrace her.
Chairman Wontumi, she said promised to give Yaro a Land Cruiser vehicle if he comes out to denigrate her integrity.
“Chairman Wontumi was the one who was behind that…they (Wontumi and NPP) promised to give my candidate a Land Cruiser vehicle and because he is also young, he believed what they said…,” she said.
Akua Donkor claimed Wontumi did that because he feared she might reduce the NPP’s votes and that would help the NDC gather the maximum votes to win the seat.
