Joe Mensah who is contesting the Kwesimintsim parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the incumbent Joe Baidoo Ansah has confirmed receiving a supposed disqualification letter from the party.
“I came to my office this morning to see an EMS letter on my table. The sender was Charles Bissue, NPP Regional Office, Takoradi and the receiver is Mr. Joseph Mensah, that’s me, GPHA Takoradi. The letter on the EMS was Friday 24th July, 2015 at 3:47 pm which is the evening before the elections” Joe Mensah revealed.
“Charles Bissue called me on Friday, 24th July, 2015 at 2:30 pm that I should come and receive a letter. I told him I have taken the case to the court so he should wait for the court decision and he (Charles Bissue) said ok. So it was after talking to me that he sent it via courier” Joe Mensah further revealed how he received his qualification letter.
The embattled NPP Parliamentary hopeful wondered why he should be briefed about his supposed disqualification only few hours to the elections “Is it the right thing to do? Friday when I was preparing for the Saturday elections and I’m told I’m disqualified, is it the right thing to do? I have not opened the EMS letter because I have to discuss it with my lawyer before, I want to open it in the presence of my lawyer because considering the time I received the letter, I have to discuss it with my lawyer” Joe Mensah told Omanbapa Kofi Amoah on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show (JBS) this morning.
Joe Mensah says he would take the case to the International Court of Justice if the need be because he would want to get to the bottom of it. “The mafia thing in our party must stop, Omanbapa, that thing must stop. The people of Kwesimintsim are fed up. For so many years, this thing has been going on and they don’t have anyone to fight for them. God has appointed me to fight for them and I will make sure that it is ended. What at all have the people of Kwesimintsim done? People like Adongo, Kofi Coomson, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe have all suffered this mafia, what sin have the people of Kwesimintsim committed? I think I have to stop it, it is going to be a long run battle and I’m prepared for it.”
Mr. Mensah who works with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Takoradi said that, at the appeals commission, he was disqualified on the basis of not having a certified membership card of the party. “At the vetting, so many issues came up, the books I’ve written, my supposed NDC membership, so many issues. But at the appeals commission, I was expecting them to ask me all these and I will address it but they only asked me about the card, the membership card, so that is the contention now. If I am called at the appeal and I’m only asked about one question then it means that is what is most important to you, the rest aren’t” Joe Mensh posited.
Clarifying the issues on the membership card, Joe Mensah said he has two membership cards. “I acquired my first card in 2003, I was in Tema then so it was Tema West signed by Dan Botwe. Second party card 15th July, 2011, at the National Headquarters and I went there with my wife to register”
