Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as a “concert man”.
To him, the Press Conference to drive home the call for a new Voters’ register by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an act that bears resemblance to a concert and “they could not get a better person than Bawumia”.
“…Ghana is getting entertaining and Bawumia would not cease to amaze me with his theatrics,” he told Adakabre Frimpong Manso on NEAT 100.9 .
Mr. Aseidu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito made this assertion after the vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said the party has presented documented evidence to the Electoral Commission to convince them on the need for a new voters’ register.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the percentage increase in the voters’ register in 2008 and 2012 is “abnormally high” which must be probed by the EC.
“One cannot credibly explain for example how increases in the voters’ register of magnitudes exceeding 40% can take place. Where did the people come from?” “…quite a large number of the constituencies with unusual increases in the voters’ register are those from neighboring countries. Take the Western region for example, where notwithstanding the oil find, Sekondi and Takoradi saw a 5% decrease in registered voters while Suaman and Nzema East saw increases in the voters register by 23% and 27.7% respectively,” he claimed.
“During the 2012 election cycle, the EC presented different figures for total number of registered voters… Brong-Ahafo and Volta regions recorded high numbers during the special registration for NHIS cards,” he said, adding that “using facial biometric recognition technology, the NPP’s investigation team fished out 76,286 voters with the same names and faces on the Ghanaian and Togolese voters registers”.
“We have submitted our evidence to the Electoral Commission…we are making this public statement because we believe we owe it as a duty to the Ghanaian people to let them know and understand why we are making this call to the EC,” Dr. Bawumia said.
But in a sharp riposte, General Mosquito fired “Dr. Bawumia is not engaging Ghanaians in an intellectual discuss but he is being theatrical and I enjoy it. He should prod on”.
