David Dontoh says acting doesn’t pay in Ghana, the veteran actor said if it’s money you are looking for then don’t venture into acting in Ghana.
“Acting in Ghana only offers prestige and honour but it not that profitable.
Movie industries like Hollywood, Nollywood and Bollywood to mention a few pay well but in Ghana it doesn’t not pay says the Actor. Only a few industry players who have affiliations in Nollywood are able to put up a few houses and buy a few cars the rest still hustle on a daily.
David Dontoh said cinemas have run down, and there is only one theater for the creative arts personnel’s to showcase what they have which is the National Theater. He also added that movie producers struggle to premiere their movie all over the country, our culture is lost and no government cares.
Mr. Dontoh questioned what the Creative Arts Ministry is doing to help actors.
Speaking on “Day Break”, angry David Dontoh said the acting industry is disregarded by society and the government as a whole. There are no structures helping the art industry to grow.
“I am a writer, but people see me as an actor most often”, says the actor.
Mr. Dontoh who has been acting for over 35 years now boasted of lots of movie scripts, commercials, text-books and concepts, but stressed that it is not that lucrative now but the honour and prestige is a great feeling.
