Fear and apprehension is gripping residents of New Takoradi following a revelation by the Ghana National Fire Service that, oil and gas pipelines passing through the community could casue a major catastrophe in case of any explosion.
This revelation came up during a community engagement by some four ( 4) oil and gas companies who are laying pipelines through the community to Cirrus Oil, an oil company in the community.
The four companies are Cirus Oil, GOIL, Total and UBI.
Shockingly, the Environmental Protection Agency which should have spearheaded such forum as law demands was reportedly not represented.
The highly patronized forum which was held at Butuah Park in Lower New Takoradi saw many indigenes fuming with rage for what they described as clandestine move by some leaders of the community including the chief to single handedly deal with the oil and gas companies.
The residents who vented their spleen on the leaders for sidelining them almost marred the forum. The youth of the community who are leading the crusade for this community engagement have vowed never to allow any work to progress on the pipeline until a general consensus is reached.
Kwame Amponsah, a youth leader tells www.233times..com that he has since been halted for the past month.
