b0ba03b7fdc6a972dcf0ded8f35fe564_LOne person has been shot dead at Akyem-Akooko in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The victim was among protestors who were demonstrating against one Nana Saaka, a fetish priest in the area, who had been accused of murdering people for rituals.

Three police officers and six other community members also sustained various degrees of injuries.

GraphicOnline gathered from the community that there had been a gathering of chiefs, queens and the people of Akyem-Akooko Tuesday morning waiting to query Nana Saaka about the allegation but the fetish priest never showed up, snubbing the call by the traditional authority.

Thus, later in the day, the angry community members, draped in red bands and regalia, organized a demonstration to banish the fetish priest out of Akyem-Akooko for disrespecting their traditional rulers and also allegedly killing people for rituals which according to them is an abomination to the area.

When the people set forth in a march to towards the fetish shrine to Nana Saaka’s shrine, they heard sudden sounds of gunshots which got the crowd scattered.

The bullets had hit two females who were part of the crowd but one died on the spot.

The police who later got to the scene were also not spared as three officers were shot and are currently in critical condition at the Tafo government Hospital.
