General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said the opposition New Patriotic Party’s call for a new voters’ register is not backed by any compelling reason.
He said the demand for a new voters’ register is the latest attempt by the NPP to “blame everybody and everything in Ghana apart from themselves” as the cause of their defeats at the polls.
Asiedu Nketia was reacting to comments made by the 2016 NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo who is criticising the NDC’s continued resistance to the call for a new voters register
Speaking on Joy FM’s affiliate station ATL FM in Cape Coast, Nana Akufo-Addo says he finds it hysterical why the NDC is adamant on allowing for a new register which will guarantee credibility in the next general elections.
“The more they protest, the more it appears to us that this register is bloated” Nana Akufo-Addo noted as he continues his ‘Rise and Build’ tour in the Central region to garner support ahead of the next general elections.
“The impression is being given that the current register favours the ruling party” Nana Akufo-Addo said. He is also describing the NDC’s arguments as “absurd”.
But Asiedu Nketia believes that NPP has failed to convince “reasonable people”. The party is “forcing Ghanaians into acting in accordance with their opinion” that the new voters’ register is bloated.
He wants the party to “justify” their demand because the current explanations appears to have been made without careful consideration.
“It is not sufficient for anybody to just get up on the top of his head” to say the register is bloated, he said dismissing any evidence brought forward by the NPP to support their claim.
“They actually don’t know what is wrong with the register” Johnson Asiedu Nketia asserted.
