Anas boy kidnapped

The bribery scandal that has hit the judiciary took a dramatic twist on Saturday after a member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye team was kidnapped in Tamale.

The police quickly swung into action and rescued the victim, leading to the arrest of one of the abductors.

Thirty-five-year-old Adamu Asumah was arrested by police in Tamale for allegedly masterminding the kidnapping of one Ishmael Hussein of Tiger PI.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told DAILY GUIDE that police are on a hunt for other suspects involved in the matter but currently on the run.

ASP Tetteh said the suspect is being held for “kidnapping, assault by imprisonment and other charges that may emanate after investigations.”

It is believed that the kidnapping was masterminded by relations of the young man who was said to have been freed of kidnapping charges by a Tamale High Court presided over by one of the judges implicated in the Anas bribery scandal.

The suspect is currently being interrogated at the regional police headquarters in Tamale.

Ishmael Hussein, who was part of Anas’ team of undercover investigators who carried out the two-year investigations into the bribery scandal that has rocked the judiciary, was kidnapped by unknown persons early Saturday morning.

Anas himself is currently attending a seminar in Norway and has ordered all his boys to move to Accra for maximum protection. Thirty judges from both the high and lower courts are being investigated for allegedly taking bribes.

Seven of the High Court judges have been suspended pending the conclusion of a committee set up by the Chief Justice.

Some 22 lower court judges have also been suspended after a prima facie case was established against them.

The kidnapping of Ishmael Hussein was first announced on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday and later confirmed by the police.

Regional Police Spokesman ASP Tetteh said Hussein was picked up in his family house by the assailants in Tamale, taken to two destinations before he was rescued in a shop belonging to a family member of one of the judges implicated in the Anas scandal.

ASP Tetteh however said he would not reveal the identity of the judge who sent the suspect to kidnap the investigator, adding that “this person is connected to the crime we are investigating now.

“He was the one who first kidnapped the man and called one other person whose name I will also not mention.

“They kidnapped him for leading the team to take shots of one of the persons who was implicated in the scandal. They were not happy that he did that.

“Whilst he was in their custody unlawfully, they issued threatening messages and told him several things which I will also not reveal.”

He said they were still investigating the matter and that several persons were involved in the matter.
