On paper and radio he has been suspended but Paul Afoko still insists he is the National Chairman of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, New Patriotic Party [NPP].
The beleaguered chairman once again called the bluff of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) by representing the party at the ongoing public forum on the voters register.
The Forum has been organised by the Electoral Commission to deliberate on debates for and against the compilation of a new voters register.
Together with his ‘troubled’ General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong and party’s leading member, Peter Mac Manu – the trio represented the NPP at the forum to justify the party’s need for a new voters’ register.
Clad in a smock – the embattled before making entrance into the auditorium where the main forum is taking place told journalists who were ‘surprised’ by his presence that – he personally wants to ensure that the NPP call for a new voters’ register is well deliberated.
“Our party has always fronted reforms for the benefit of our country so that is what we are here to do today” Paul Akofo said.
Asked whether he is leading the NPP delegation as the chairman of the NPP – he affirmatively said – “I’m here as the Chairman of the NPP…I am here leading the team to ensure that the views of our party are heard; to ensure that we push through the reforms that we require for next year’s elections. Thank you all” he said with a big smile. |
