Man U and City draw: Kane scores hat trick

manchester-United-620x400Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table after coming away from their derby meeting against rivals Manchester United with a point as the match ended 0-0.

The draw was enough for City to leapfrog Arsenal on goal difference while United sit in fourth, two points behind Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

It was a cagey first half at Old Trafford, with chances at a premium. City’s Yaya Toure came closest on 41 minutes when he met Kevin De Bruyne’s delivery only to see his header drop the wrong side of the post.

Early in the second half, Chris Smalling connected with a Juan Mata cross but his header was just wide of goalkeeper Joe Hart’s left post.

Mata was almost clean through on the hour mark as he looked to latch on to Marcos Rojo’s clearance but Hart was quick off his line to clear the ball.

United almost won it late on when Anthony Martial chipped a ball over City’s defence and Jesse Lingard clipped a shot on to the crossbar.

Hart was called into action once more in the 88th minute with the shot-stopper turning Smalling’s low effort around the post.

Southampton’s Sadio Mane scored late to deny Jurgen Klopp his first win as Liverpoolmanager, with Sunday’s Premier League match finishing 1-1.

Christian Benteke had come off the bench to seemingly secure three points for Klopp, but Mane netted with four minutes remaining to deny Klopp in his third match in charge.

It was a tight first half at Anfield, with clear-cut chances few and far between. Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk did test goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but his header was pushed away by the Belgian.

Klopp brought on striker the recently injured Benteke for Divock Origi at half-time, while Roberto Firmino also entered the fray as the German coach sought a breakthrough.

Benteke’s introduction proved key as the Belgium international rose to head home powerfully from James Milner’s cross in the 77th minute.

Mane had the final say, though, with the Saints man tucking in at the back post after Gaston Ramirez headed across goal.

The goal scorer did not, however, remain on the pitch until full-time, with Mane receiving a second yellow in injury time.

Harry Kane scored a hat trick as Tottenham Hotspur came from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 5-1.

Bournemouth took the lead in the opening seconds with Matt Ritchie scoring at the back post from Charlie Daniels’ cross.

But Tottenham hit back quickly as Harry Kane tucked home from the penalty spot on nine minutes after a foul from goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Tottenham turned the game around on 17 minutes through Mousa Dembele, who reacted quickest to a loose ball to slot home low.

It was 3-1 Spurs in the 29th minute with Erik Lamela on the scoresheet, tapping in from close range after Boruc failed to keep hold of the ball.

Kane grabbed his second of the game early in the second half thanks to Christian Eriksen’s assist, and he completed his hat trick on 63 minutes with a close-range finish.
