NDC Chairman stabbed over party car

NDC1Tension is mounting at the Ahafo Ano North branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), after the constituency treasurer, Adams Alhassan allegedly stabbed his chairman over disagreements in the use of a party vehicle to campaign for the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Peter Anarfi Mensah.

The chairman, Samuel Awuni who was stabbed in the head and below the eye Sunday night around 8.30pm is currently receiving treatment at the Tepa Government Hospital.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah is contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament Akwasi Adusei in next month’s parliamentary primaries of the ruling NDC.

Speaking to the media, the constituency chairman said since the regional minister filed to contest the sitting MP, he issued a fiat that in consonance with the party’s constitution, no constituency executive should support any of the candidates nor any party vehicle should be used in that respect to support their respective campaigns.

He said when he realised that some executives were bent on using the vehicle to campaign for the regional minister, he asked the police to take over the vehicle but on the instruction of the regional minister, the vehicle was released to the District Chief Executive (DCE).

He said after that he saw and heard that the vehicle was being used to campaign for the regional minister.

He explained that, after meeting President Dramani Mahama in Kumasi on Sunday as part of #Changinglives tour, he went to the DCE’s office to demand the vehicle but they could not tell him where the keys had been kept.

”I ordered that they should deflate the tyres but in the process, Alhassan who has flouted party rules and has been campaigning for the regional minister came around in the regional minister’s campaign vehicle and asked why they were grounding the vehicle. When I said I was the one who gave the order, he slapped me and when I retaliated he brought out a knife and stabbed me in the head and below my eyes,” Mr Awuni said.

The incumbent MP, Mr Adusei has accused the regional minister of ordering the release of the culprit minutes after his arrest but the regional minister has denied any knowledge about the incident and the release of the culprit.
