Former Western Region Chairman of the opposition NPP, Nana Owusu Ankomah, has named the Party’s acting National Chairman Freddie Blay as the cause of-internal wrangling concerning suspended National Chairman Paul Afoko. He says Freddie Blay has overstepped his boundaries as 1st vice Chairman and has grossly undermined Paul Afoko as Chairman. Speaking on Skyy Power fm’s news analyisis show News Review, Owusu Ankomah pointed out that the position of first vice chairman only comes into power when the chairman is not available.
“I always refer to him (the first vice chairman) as coat hanger. You are only functional when the chairman is not there. And even then, whatever you do should be with recourse to the chairman,” he said.
He expressed his respect for former first vice chairman Fred Oware for staying within his confines as first vice chairman and giving the due to then Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey. Mr Blay on the other hand, is a polar opposite, according to Owusu Ankomah.
The former Regional Chairman went on to say the Acting Chairman had his support when he was seeking to be elected as National First Vice Chairman, but this has waned since he purportedly began working against the party.
Nana Owusu Ankomah says the action of sending a letter to the EC to disown Paul Afoko as Chairman showed the Commission that the NPP is a house divided.
“Why won’t Charlotte Osei say all sorts of things to us when at this critical period we are discussing issues and policies, you are looking at representation?” he added, “do we have our priorities right?”
