A motor rider and a pillion (the one sitting behind) died on the spot after their Motor Cycle collided with a private Salon car. The accident happened around midnight on Saturday on the Axim road at a spot near the Air force Junction and Latter Day Saints in Takoradi.
Eyewitnesses say both vehicles were moving from Kwame Nkrumah Circle (popularly known as Agip roundabout) towards the Shippers Roundabout (Beach road roundabout).
The motorcycle was in the inner lane and the Salon car in the outer lane. They say the motorcycle tried to cross the outer lane and move to the shoulder of the road resulting in a collision. It is unclear whether the two deceased were in any protective gear.
The driver stopped initially but bolted after seeing a surging crowd towards him. One of the victims has been identified as Annor Blay who lives near the Effiakuma Trotro Station in Takoradi whilst the other casualty, who is yet to be named, is said to be a resident of Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi.
The driver of the Salon car has since reported himself to the police.
