Fomer DVLA Boss faces jail term

dvlaFormer head of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Justice Amegashie is likely to face jail term for signing an illegal contract with Foto-X in August 2012.

Mr. Amegashie allegedly signed the contract worth GHC 6.3million for the supply of material and equipment for the printing of drivers license.

He told the Parliamentary select Committee on Transport Tuesday that public frustration at the delays in printing the licenses forced the DVLA into renewing the controversial contract with Foto-X.

The contract with Foto-X has become a matter of public concern following a revelation that it was inflated and hastily arranged.

It has been uncovered that although the deal was supposed to be $3.6million, it jumped to $9.9million through a strange decision of the DVLA Management.

Some managers of the DVLA have described the deal as the worst ever in the history of the DVLA.

The attorney general has called for the immediate cancellation of the contract.
