Minority petition Speaker over Prez. Mahama’s ‘denigrating’ comment

Doe_AdjahoThe Minority in Parliament have complained to the Speaker about what they describe as President Mahama’s denigrating comments about their work.

Addressing NDC supporters in the Volta Region on Thursday, the President took a swipe at the Minority’s call on him to justify the use of several loans approved by Parliament.

Mr Mahama said if the Minority NPP is now asking what the loans have been used for, then it means that the members of the party have been sleeping in Parliament.

“You say we haven’t used the loans for anything and that we are misusing monies. Meanwhile every loan we take is taken through Parliament for approval so what have they been doing? Have they been sleeping?

“They approve the loans in Parliament; there is no single loan we have taken without taking it through Parliament; they should come and tell us what they have been doing,” the President said.

In a closed-door meeting with the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, the Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and other leaders of his side registered their protest and warned the comments could impact on their relationship with the majority in the execution of government business.

Responding to the issue on the floor, the Speaker said he has requested the Majority leadership to furnish him with details of the issue.

“The leadership of the Minority has drawn my attention to certain issues and I have tasked a member of the Majority side to work on the issue and give me a feedback as early as possible then I will get back to the leadership of the Minority side on the issue”.

Although the practice of the House condemns the discussion of issues from political platforms, Mr Adjaho says he will address this one.
