3 more Judges sacked

judgeThree more Ghanaian judges have been sacked without benefits over the two-year investigation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The three judges include His Worship Kaakyire Atta Owusu, His Worship Isaac Amoah and His Worship Stephen Azuure, who were among some 34 persons indicted in Anas’ investigation.

The action is the outcome of a probe ordered by the Chief Justice as a result of a petition to the President and copied to the Chief Justice by Anas’ Tiger Eye PI, in a case which has earned the euphemism ‘Anas Video’.

Their dismissal follows last week’s sack of 20 other judges by a unanimous decision of the Judicial Council after an emergency meeting held on Monday, December 7.

The affected persons, comprising eight Circuit Court Judges and 13 District Magistrates, were removed for stated misbehaviour under article 151 (1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The Judicial council in a correspondence issued yesterday said, the names of the three magistrates were left out when the Council announced its unanimous decision last week to remove from office twenty (20) out of the 21 Circuit Court Judges and District Magistrates investigated by the Disciplinary Committee for their involvement in allegations of bribery by Tiger Eye PI.

“This is because letters informing them of the Judicial Council’s resolution to remove them from office had not reached them at the time the announcement was made.”

Also one, Mr. Kofi Kyere, who is a High Court Registrar, and as such, a Judicial Officer, has also been dismissed without benefits by the Judicial Council.

He was among the staff cited in the tiger eye pi petition including; Peace Abuadzi – Circuit Court Registrar, Daniel Dzata – District Court Registrar  and Elias Nkansah – Assistant Registrar , Eric Ayensu – Messenger.

Those cited in the Tiger PI petition were investigated by a Committee set up by the Judicial Secretary in accordance with Regulation 27 (2) of the Judicial Service Regulations, 1963 (L.I. 319).

They have subsequently been dismissed pursuant to section 17 of the Judicial Service Act, 1960 (C.A.1 0).

The decision to dismiss Peace Abuadzi (Circuit Court Registrar) And Daniel Dzata (District Court Registrar) has been confirmed by the Chief Justice in accordance with Regulation 27 (2) of the Judicial Service Regulations, 1963 (L.I. 319).

The Disciplinary Committee did not establish any act of misconduct
against Benjamin Agyepong, a driver of the Service, who was also cited in the petition by Tiger Eye PI. His interdiction has therefore been lifted with immediate effect.
