Okyenhene didn’t endorse Prez. Mahama – Effiduasehene

Okyenhene-620x400Okoawia Dwomo Baabu II, chief of Effiduase, has vehemently debunked assertions by a section of the media that his 5th anniversary provided a fertile ground for Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin to promote the agenda of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and President John Dramani Mahama.

Okoawia Dwomo, who is the Nifahene of the New Juaben Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, denied the media reports, stressing that the Okyenhene did not endorse President Mahama ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The chief spoke to DAILY GUIDE in an interview over the brouhaha generated after the celebration of his fifth installation anniversary on Saturday, January 2, 2016.
Okoawia Dwomo said Osagyefuo Amoatia sought to raise national issues, including indiscipline, youth unemployment and politics of insults, among others.

“The Okyenhene called for respect for all political leaders. He made no particular reference to President John Dramani Mahama nor did he seek to denounce the need for Ghanaians to interrogate the actions of government,” he stated.

It was therefore out of place for a host on Peace FM’s newspaper review programme to use the session to peddle falsehood about the Okyenhene, he indicated.
“I find the comments of a co-host on the newspaper review segment on Peace FM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 regrettable. In reference to a newspaper report, the co-host of the programme completely misinformed the public when he stated that Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin had endorsed His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for elections 2016.”

Okoawia Dwomo Baabu thanked Okyenhene for gracing the occasion and adding colour to it.

He expressed regret for any inconvenience caused him as a result of the false report.

The Effiduasehene appealed to journalists to seek clarification on issues they do not understand before rushing to press.

“It is regrettable to note that no attempt has been made at interrogating the uninformed partisan comments made by the host of the programme,” he added.
