Oprah Winfrey earns $12 million for a tweet

oprah-tour-bio-1-949x534Popular TV host Oprah Winfrey has raked in $ 12 million in American company Weight Watchers’ shares for posting a tweet about losing weight while still eating bread.

The 61-year-old media mogul is a shareholder in Weight Watchers. After she posted a short video message about being able to lose 26 pounds, while still eating bread, shares in the weight loss brand, of which she owns $ 6 million, increased by 18 per cent, or around $ 2.10 per share, within an hour, according to Market Watch, reported Female First.

The multi-million dollar tweet shared a video link alongside a message, which read: “Eat bread. Lose weight. Whaatt? #ComeJoinMe (sic)”

In the 30-second clip, Winfrey said: “I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day.”

The star won’t be able to bank her profits just yet as she would have to sell her shares to get the funds.

She became a spokesperson for Weight Watchers in October, following the footsteps of the likes of Jennifer Hudson and Jenny McCarthy who have previously represented the group.
