PHOTO: 2 nabbed for using Chief of Staff’s name to defraud

NABBED-STAFFTwo young men who tried to set the La Nkwantang MCE, Mr Franklin Anku, against the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, are in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command.

The suspects are Samuel Mwinzumah, 29, a marketing personnel; and Prince kwami, 26, a businessman.

According to reports from the police, on January 18 at about 10:35am, Mr Franklin Anku reported that he received a message from Mr Debrah requesting him to pay an amount of GH¢30,000 to the leader of National Security operatives detailed for an exercise in Madina, a suburb of Accra.

Not convinced that the message was from Mr Debrah, a report was made to the police.

Certain that their plan had worked, Samuel and Prince then approached the MCE for the money, which led to their arrest.

A call made to the office of the Chief of Staff revealed that no such assignment was known to the office.

In their caution statement, the two young men confessed to the crime and claimed it was a system they had created to help set political opponents against each other.

Per their claim, they were testing the system within their own political party to see how it would work.

“We have been trying to introduce the system to some bigwigs within government to show them how it will create confusion in the opposition party to win power,” they said.
