Victim reports to police
Briefing the Daily Graphic yesterday, the Odorkor Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Francis Aboagye Nyarko, said a businesswoman who had fallen victim to the operations of the suspects reported to the police on January 21, 2016.
The suspects were said to have bought a quantity of children’s wear from the businesswoman’s boutique which they paid for with United States dollar notes.
He said even though the total cost of the items bought by the suspects was GH¢1,400, they gave the shop attendant $400 and demanded GH¢200 change.
The attendant gave them GH¢200 but later when the shop owner went to a forex bureau to exchange the money for Ghana cedis, it was detected that they were fake notes.
Public to offer information
The police, after receiving the reports, launched an all-out investigation and later gathered that some other shop owners had fallen victim.
Investigations, according to Mr Aboagye Nyarko, also revealed that one of the suspects had earlier been arrested by the Sowutuom Police but was granted bail.
A search in the house of one of the suspects, he said, led to the discovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a box of water filter tubes and some fake currencies.
He appealed to the public to contact the Odorkor Police or the nearest police station with any form of information which could facilitate investigations into the matter.
