10 unclaimed bodies buried in Kintampo

The Kintampo Municipal Government Hospital, in conjunction with the Kintampo Municipal Assembly and the police, has jointly organised a mass burial for 10 unclaimed bodies of last Wednesday’s accident victims on the Kintampo –Tamale highway.

The 10 bodies, including two children, five men and three women, were buried last Sunday after the bodies had gone bad and emanating offensive odour into the community.

Their families could not be traced, thereby, forcing the hospital’s authorities to take the necessary action to get rid of the bodies.

Some of the bodies which were identified and collected by families were also buried at Kintampo, with the support of the municipal assembly, the police and some religious organisations.

At the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital at Sunyani where some of the injured victims are receiving treatment, nine persons are still on admission but are responding to treatment.

They include Emmanuel Baaba, six; Amidu Ibrahim, eight; Sandra Zabrae, two-and-half years and Comfort Atia.

It would be recalled 61 passengers last Wednesday lost their lives after the bus on which they were travelling collided with a truck loaded with tomatoes at Kintampo.

Fifty-eight bodies were deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue, while three were deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital morgue.

When a team of ministers of state visited the Kintampo Government Hospital last Thursday, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Bismark Owusu-Fosu, complained about the limited facilities at the hospital and explained that a similar accident in the area had overstretched the capacity of the mortuary.
