Charles Darku, the Managing Director of Tullow Ghana has been named the 2015 MAN OF THE YEAR at a ceremony in Accra.
AnasAremeyawAnas, Africa’s most famous investigative journalist was also named 2015 EMERGING MAN OF THE YEAR by Viasat1 Television, organisers of the Awards.
Laetitia Royaards, the Chief Executive Officer of VIASAT 1 Ghana, said the two gentlemen were chosen as winners of the awards for their dedication to excellence and their pursuit of a better Ghanaian society in their fields of endeavor.
“Charles Darku and Anas Aremeyaw Anas topped a long list of Ghanaian men who achieved some amazing feats in 2015. The list was rife with names of entrepreneurs, politicians, inventors, the clergy, academia, arts, entertainment, science and many other fields,” said Laetitia.
“The MAN OF THE YEAR awards committee was tasked with the rather unenviable task of selecting only two winners from a list of at least sixty distinguished performers. After a multiple layered process, Charles Darku was adjudged worthy of the accolade, 2015 MAN OFTHE YEAR and Anas Aremeyaw, the 2015 EMMERGING MAN OF THE YEAR,” the Viasat1 CEO explained.
The citation accompanying Charles Darku’s award praised the Havard University alumnus for his “pioneering business leadership in Ghana’s pursuit of oil wealth where you sit as the first Ghanaian in the top hierarchy of Tullow Oil, a distinguished global player.” The citation also mentioned Mr. Darku’s efforts at “being a consummate champion in a bid to improve local content participation for Ghanaians in the oil space as well as taking tough decisions in order to carve and create a prosperous future for the country.”
Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ citation for the 2015 Emmerging Man of the Year paid glowing tribute to his work in investigative journalism where ‘excellence is his staple” and also zeroed in on his work which led to the dismissal of many members of the judiciary in Ghana. Parts of the citation read; “for your matchless mission to bring down the lords of the law who wade in sacrilegious misdemeanor leading to a purge of the judiciary in Ghana, ANAS AREMEYAW ANAS has become THE ULTIMATE STANDARD FOR YOUNG MEN IN GHANA.”
Receiving his award at the MAN OF THE YEAR event ceremony at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra, ANAS AREMEYAW ANAS told the gathering, while he was excited by the recognition of his work, it would in no way stop his mantra of naming, shaming and jailing corrupt people in the country and on the continent.
Mr. Charles Darku, whose award was received on his behalf by the Senior Manager at Tullow Ghana Limited, David Nyanteh, said he was surprised that he was chosen for such an award of distinction because “I did not know that while I went about my duties quietly in serving mother Ghana, I was being observed and monitored by some people. This is really an honour and a challenge to even do more to help improve our country and our people on the path of prosperity.”
Head of Own Productions at VIASAT 1 Ghana Brenda Antwi Donkor says VIASAT1 will continue to reward Men of Excellence in the country, adding that the MAN OF THE YEAR award is for men above forty years while the EMMERGING MAN OF THE YEAR is for men below the forty year mark.
“ Once again, we have achieved a year of distinction. The 2014 MAN OF THE YEAR recipient was Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the Founder and President of the HODA Group which owns Unibank, Star Assurance, EIB Group and many more.
The 2014 EMMERGING MAN OF THE YEAR was Dr. Kotei Dzani of Ideal Financial Holdings which owns and operates Ideal Finance, FirsTrust Savings and Loans, Ideal Capital Partners and many more. We are happy to be associated with such men who become the Ultimate Standards of Distinction in Ghana,” Brenda Antwi Donkor concluded.
