Mabel Okyere, a 19-year-old From One student of a junior high school in Koforidua in the New Juaben municipality of the Eastern Region, is currently on admission at the Government Hospital Surgical Ward struggling to survive.
Mabel sustained some degrees of injury on Friday at 1:00 am when she was asleep and a 40-year-old man, Kwaku Manu (a palm wine tapper), who lived with them in the same house at Debrakrom, near Agyeiwa Lodge in Koforidua, allegedly went to her room to forcefully have sex with her. Her refusal to yield to the demand of Kwaku Manu reportedly infuriated the palm wine tapper who allegedly butchered the girl mercilessly.
Kwaku Manu, scared about his action, immediately took to his heels from the house while Mabel, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the Koforidua Government Hospital for treatment.
Mabel’s mother, Mama Ama Kyerewaah, a midwife, explained to DAILY GUIDE that she heard her daughter shouting for help in her room. When she rushed there, Kwaku Manu was on top of her (Mabel) butchering her with a sharp machete as blood was profusely oozing from her body.”
According to Mame Kyerewaah, she then struggled with Kwaku Manu to leave her daughter but he pushed her on the floor and managed to escape. “I was shouting for help but the other tenants were asleep so nobody heard it to come to my rescue,” the woman said.
She hinted that she met Kwaku Manu at the shrine a fetish priest called Mmotia Komfo six months ago and they became friends, adding that Kwaku then pleaded to stay with her in the same house in order to help her with her daily activities.
Mame Kyerewaah, told DAILY GUIDE in tears, “I received him like a mother, gave him a room and feed him every day. He doesn’t even pay light bill. Kwaku came to me last week to inform me that he loves my daughter but I warned him to stay away from her.”
DAILY GUIDE sources at the house said Kwaku Manu is a chain wee smoker who behaves abnormally and had even threatened to butcher some of the tenants but when they reported it to Mama Kyerwaah, she refused to take action.
