Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is likely to miss Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations
qualifier against Mozambique on March 24, 2016 at the Accra Sports Stadium due to injury.
The Shangai SPIG player picked up a thigh injury in his team’s opener of the Asian Champions League against Melbourne Victory in Australia, which they lost 2-1.
He lasted an hour in the game and was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Gyan, after picking up that injury since February 24, has not played for his side and was even left out in the squad that played last weekend against Korea Republic’s Suwon Bluewings in their second game of the Asian Champions League, which they won 2-1.
Coach Steve-Goran Erikkson and Avram Grant will be hoping to have their talisman recover early for their crucial encounters both for club and country.
Asamoah Gyan’s career with Chinese club Shanghai SIPG has been hit with injuries and he has failed to score for the club since August 17.
The last time Gyan failed to play for the Black Stars due to an injury he picked up at club side was in the game against Comoro Island in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in the second preliminary round.
