Prez. Mahama condemns terror attacks on Cote D’Ivoire, Turkey

John-Maahama-685x320President John Dramani Mahama has described as despicable and unconscionable the terrorists’ attacks on Cote d’Ivoire and Turkey at Grand Bassam Beach Resort and the Kizilay District respectively on Sunday, 13th March, 2016.

The President expressed Ghana’s deepest condolences and sympathy to President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, their governments and people. He also wished the injured speedy recovery.

Ghana stands by the two countries in their moments of profound grief and adversity. Let us work together as a global community to win the war against terrorism even as we strengthen global, regional and national security mechanisms,” President Mahama.

Heavily armed gunmen opened fire on Sunday at a hotel in Côte d’Ivoire’s beach resort of Grand-Bassam.

According to the AFP, the assailants, who were “heavily armed and wearing balaclavas, fired at guests at the L’Etoile du Sud (Southern Star), a large hotel which was full of expats.

At least 16 people were killed in the attacks.

In Turkey also, at least 34 people have died after a car bomb exploded in the Turkish capital Ankara, less than a month after a suicide car bomber killed dozens of military personnel and civilians in the city.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has further vowed to bring terrorism “to its knees” after the attack.
