I’m alive! – Afari-Gyan debunks death rumour

Afari-Gyan-leaving-the-Supreme-Court-during-the-election-petition-hearingThe issue of someone being pronounced dead on social media is a phenomenon becoming one too many.

Even though a lot of Ghanaians have spoken against it, it keeps occurring.

A recent one which was all over social media over the weekend was the alleged passing away of former Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Kojo Afari-Gyan.

Even though it was not substantiated, the rumour kept spreading.

However, on Monday’s edition of Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, the former EC boss spoke to Kwami Sefa Kayi, indicating that he is alive.

“You are not talking to a ghost…” he said.

  1. Why and how did this phenomenon start in Ghana? Tmz,a tabloid media report a lot of rumours about the deaths and actual deaths of celebrities. Social media picked up this practice but was mostly limited to international celebrities so my question is,is it the case that the youth in Ghana are now so bored they have become copy cats just to do something or to just start a trend in Ghana? I think it’s disgusting and something should be done to takle this.
